Melbourne's next 4.5-star hotel WON'T have mini bars or staff uniforms

Brady Hotels, a hotel fit for royalty, is opening in Melbourne next month. Errr, okay maybe it’s not exactly Monarch material but it does have a permanent regal presence with all King beds.

Brady Hotels Jones Lane in Melbourne will welcome its first guests on 1 August, who’ll no doubt appreciate the property’s prime location and modern styling.

Standing on Little Lonsdale Street – a new laneway in Melbourne’s Theatre District -, the 4.5-star hotel is perfectly tucked away for easy access to Her Majesty’s Theatre, The Comedy Theatre, Old Melbourne Gaol, Royal Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum. It’s also close to Chinatown and the ever-popular Greek precinct as well as Melbourne Central and QV Melbourne.

Practically perfect location aside, Brady Hotels has 153 rooms across 21 storeys, each of which is fitted with spacious King beds and openable windows, which is pretty rare for Melbourne.

Around 96 rooms have balconies for those who want to breathe in that… Melbourne air, while all rooms come with floor-to-ceiling windows, ‘Dreamer’ pillowtop mattresses, black and marble bathrooms (apparently they have powerful showerheads – got to love that), and high-end bespoke furniture.

Guests will find a 40-inch smart TV with Foxtel access inside their rooms, and Australian Urban Skin Care bathroom amenities.

What they won’t find is a mini-bar in the rooms, as Brady Hotels research found that travellers prefer ‘BYO’, nor will there be a conventional check-in desk, which will be replaced with an open-plan lobby.

Staff may be a little harder to spot as they won’t have uniforms because the hotel brand belives this allows them to “convey their individual personalities while maintaining the highest professional standards”.

During dining hours, travellers can pop down to the street-facing Jones Lane Cafe and Bar or take advantage of round-the-clock room service.

There’s also an on-site gym, self-serve laundry, bike storage room and two garden terraces.

Brady Hotels’ Group General Manager, Robert Moore, said many aspects of the new hotel reflect what guests have expressed they want – and don’t want.

“Unsurprisingly, the number one item on guests’ wish lists is a great bed and peaceful night’s sleep.”

“The ‘Dreamer’ pillowtop mattresses we’ve chosen for Jones Lane are crafted by Hypnos – the official bed supplier to all the royal residences in the UK including Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle,” he explained.
