Breathtaking video of ballerina dancing on bow of Ponant ship goes viral

A video of French ballerina Victoria Daubeville dancing on the bow of a Ponant ship in Antarctica has gone viral, with many questioning the safety of the stunt.

A video of French ballerina Victoria Daubeville dancing on the bow of a Ponant ship in Antarctica has gone viral, with many questioning the safety of the stunt.

The widely distributed video has more than 1.7 million hits on Daubeville’s Instagram account, with a caption by Daubeville saying, “Better than AI. Check out the behind-the-scenes of how we shot this video.”

She says no AI was used for this video and states the video was shot, along with photography (as per the main image and below) by her partner, artist Mathieu Forget.

CBC News interviewed the pair, who say they were invited by Ponant to go to Antarctica stating, “We met the second captain who told us there was a unique place on the boat he could take us to”.

Many have questioned the safety of a ballerina dancing on the bow of a ship surrounded by ice, with more than 69,000 liking a comment saying, “As much as I appreciate the beauty of this shoot, I find the risk seriously outweigh the benefits.”

CBC reported that the pair “did safety checks beforehand and did a dry run”.

Forget has thanked those who have supported the shoot on his Instagram account saying, “Thank you all for the amazing support we received, it’s absolutely crazy.”

The pair are selling prints of the stunt.

Ponant was unavailable for comment.
