JW Marriott has expanded in the Maldives opening new private island retreat, JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort in the atoll’s largest lagoon.

The resort has 80 private pool villas – including 47 overwater pool villas – seven dining venues and bars, an infinity pool and overwater spa.

For the ultimate in luxury put your clients in the Three-Bedroom Ocean Residence which has sprawling bedrooms, a spa bath, private pool and separate living rooms.

Paying homage to its surrounds

The design ethos has drawn from the local surrounds with the arrival jetty inspired by the flight of the Maakana heron, while villas echo traditional Maldivian Gedhoru huts, with kajan roofs and turquoise doors.

A 30-metre underwater coastal structure has been designed to help combat beach erosion and create a reef habitat that attracts diverse fish and coral, with guests able to interact with the structure, contributing to scientific efforts addressing climate challenges.

Wining and dining

You could spend a week here and not dine in the same place for dinner twice.

Choose Veyo for its international menu, where dishes are savoured to expansive panoramic views. Wahoo is the infinity pool bar for something more casual, while Athiri is the resort’s signature two-storey steakhouse.

Nikkei offers craft cocktails and light bites – a fusion of Peruvian cuisine and global influences; while Riva serves traditional Indian, Sri Lankan and Maldivian-inspired dishes.

Pure showcases fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with herbs harvested from the onsite garden, and for decadent morsels before you head out for the day, head to deli and patisserie, Tito where you’ll find handcrafted chocolates, macarons, truffles, cakes, and flaky pastries.
