The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Hobart is offering a unique, exclusive experience this winter to capture one of Australia’s best natural light shows.
Led by Tasmanian landscape photographer and Aurora chaser, Luke O’Brien, guests at the Marriott hotel will stand under a blanket of stars with the chance to see vibrant galaxies, The Milky Way, and potentially, the gem in the night sky, Aurora Australis.
With skies free from light pollution, Tasmania offers some of Australia’s best viewing platforms to see the starlit sky.
During the ‘Skygazer’ experience, guests will be transported to prime lookouts to capture the fairy-tale moment of Tassie’s night skies, including (if you strike it lucky) The Aurora Australis (Southern Lights) – often too subtle to see with the naked eye.
Sip on a hot spiced apple cider, and wrap up in a merino wool scarf with your camera in hand to capture the moment. And afterwards, take home The Aurora Chaser’s Handbook as a keepsake.

When you return to your five-star hotel, sit by the fire and sip on a fine whisky.
The first Luxury Collection hotel in Australia, The Tasman opened in 2021 and has three buildings, the Heritage wing, Art Deco, and a new contemporary wing.
Near Parliament Square and overlooking Hobart’s historic waterfront, there are 152 rooms and suites, and a signature restaurant that takes culinary direction from renowned Tasmanian chef, Massimo Mele.
The Skygazer experience is available until 31st August and guests need to bring their own cameras.
