Budget airline, Rex has launched a new service between Adelaide and Perth, just days after announcing a five-day-a-week Melbourne to Perth route.
The new route, available from the end of June, is the 12th domestic service for Rex, which flies to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and the Gold Coast.
The flights will be on Embraer E-190 jets, operated by National Jet Express (NJE).
NJE Director Anthony Gibara said: “This is terrific news for Perth and Adelaide travellers because more operators means more competition, but in the case of Rex, it also means better service and reliability”.
And he added, “We intend to increase the number of services once we are established on the route”.
Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove said it is great to see Rex expand its route offerings to Western Australia.
“Currently Rex operates four successful regional services within Western Australia. The introduction of Rex’s new interstate routes is a sure sign of its confidence in the Perth market,” she said.
“This gives Western Australians more options for travel, and we look forward to working with the Rex Airline team to ensure the new routes are successful.”
South Australia Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison said the new service will also undoubtedly entice more visitors to South Australia.
“The commencement of an extra three flights a week from Perth to Adelaide is timed perfectly to coincide with the start of WA school holidays,” she said.
“I encourage Western Australians to take advantage of this new service and come and visit South Australia and experience our great food and wine, natural beauty and exciting events.”
