Singapore Airlines and Scoot reach 57% of 2019 international passenger levels

In its latest monthly financial report, Singapore Airlines and Scoot (SIA) reported a total of 1,452,500 passengers carried in April 2022, up 62.7 per cent from the previous month.

In its latest monthly financial report, Singapore Airlines and Scoot (SIA) reported a total of 1,452,500 passengers carried in April 2022, up 62.7 per cent from the previous month.

The SIA Group said demand for air travel increased significantly in April 2022 with group passenger capacity (measured in available seat-kilometres) reaching 57 per cent of pre-Covid-19 levels in April 2022, six percentage points above the month before.

The passenger load factor (PLF) for the month stood at 72.7 per cent, the highest since the onset of the pandemic.

The airline said this was an improvement of 18.2 percentage points month-on-month or 59 percentage points year-on-year. PLF improved across all route regions for both airlines.

Singapore removed all Vaccinated Travel Lane arrangements from 1 April 2022 and allowed fully vaccinated travellers to enter Singapore quarantine-free and without on-arrival Covid-19 tests.

From 26 April 2022, Singapore also removed the pre-departure Covid-19 test requirement. Many key markets for the SIA Group also further relaxed their border control measures.

Cargo capacity grew 35.1 per cent on the back of passenger flight resumptions across the network.

However, cargo loads (freight tonne-kilometres) declined 2.1 per cent as cargo demand was affected by the pandemic controls in China. In addition, more belly-hold space was allocated for baggage carriage as passenger load factors improved.

During April, SIA resumed operations to Davao and Cebu, while Scoot resumed services to Hat Yai and Kota Kinabalu.

At the end of April 2022, the Group’s passenger network covered 95 destinations including Singapore. SIA served 71 destinations while Scoot served 45 destinations as of end-April 2022.

Since Australia’s international border began to reopen on 1 November 2021, SIA has increased services from Australia to more than 100 flights a week from seven cities.
