Its been a big week for cruising with Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice arriving in Australia for her fourth wave season Down Under and P&O’s two new ships officially entering drydock.

That’s right, renovation of Holland America’s Statendam & Ryndam is officially underway, with the two ships expected to sail out of the Singaporean shipyard in three weeks as P&O’s Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden.

Some 900 contractors from 43 different nationalities have been recruited to stitch, pluck and transform them into practically brand new vessels before officially joining the P&O fleet next month. Read on

Over in the US, Norwegian Cruise Line broke Facebook earlier this week when the line posted about the delivery of Norwegian Escape.

Fans went wild on Facebook liking, posting and commenting on the company’s page – there was so much enthusiasm that a few even had trouble getting their comments published. Read more about it here.

Speaking of breaking things, Thor is set to bring his hammer to Australia next year to film the comic superhero’s third solo movie.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop revealed the good news earlier this week, saying it will be a multi-million dollar coup for the country. Read on

In aviation, Virgin Australia’s budget carrier, Tigerair Australia, ripped off its old stripes and stepped into new ones as part of a series of carrier upgrades.

The change will see the low-cost carrier’s female cabin crew replace the white shirts and black pants with a white and grey-sleeved shirt featuring the airline’s iconic orange around the neckline. The top will be accompanied with a black skirt or black pants and a pair of black shoes. Read on
