Movers + Shakers: Intrepid promotes Yvette Thompson to new GM Sales & Marketing ANZ role

Intrepid Travel is upping the ante in Australia and New Zealand, appointing Yvette Thompson to the new role of General Manager Sales and Marketing ANZ.

Intrepid Travel is upping the ante in Australia and New Zealand, appointing Yvette Thompson to the new role of General Manager Sales and Marketing ANZ.

The new GM position was created due to the burgeoning business the company is witnessing in the Aussie and Kiwi markets.

With 15 years of professional experience in travel, Yvette will steer sales, marketing and partnerships in ANZ for the B Corp-certified company.

“I’m thrilled to embark on this new role within the Sales and Marketing team to help strategically grow the ANZ region,” says Thompson, who will commence in the role on 1 May.

“While I have absolutely loved my time leading the ANZ partnerships team, I am looking forward to widening my scope of impact and to helping the business achieve our ambitious 2030 goals.”

Intrepid Travel ANZ Managing Director Brett Mitchell says, “Yvette has been with the company for over a decade and has made an incredible contribution to growing the ANZ region and representing the brand, our values, and our culture”.

“We had a huge number of excellent applicants for the role, and after an extensive search, I’m excited to announce this internal promotion.”

The move aligns with Intrepid’s 2030 Strategy aiming to double customers to 600,000, hit $1.3 billion in revenue and allocate 1 per cent of revenue to purpose-driven initiatives.

Intrepid also plans to broaden beyond tours into areas like accommodation and publishing.

The announcement follows recent ANZ team expansions, including Thomas Bray as Partnerships and Project Manager NZ and Abbe Lunn’s promotion to Senior Key Partnerships Manager. It also recently appointed Simon Small as Key Partnerships Manager ANZ and Andrew Macfarlane as Purpose Specialist ANZ.

With Thompson’s promotion, Intrepid is now seeking a new Head of Sales & Partnerships ANZ.

In March, Intrepid Travel announced it had hit an all-time financial record in FY23 with a net profit of AU$21.8 million – a $47.7 million turnaround in just 12 months.

Earlier this year, Intrepid announced it was upping its youth travel product for 2024, adding more locally-led trips and expanding its young adult age range to include 18-35s in a broader move to cater for next-gen travel demand.
