Silversea has elevated Bert Hernandez to the role of President effective immediately as former President Barbara Muckermann resigns after 14 years to pursue other opportunities outside the brand.

Mr Hernandez ascends to the Silversea position after 20 years with parent company Royal Caribbean Group, most recently as Vice President International, along with a stint as COO of the Group’s former luxury cruise line, Azamara.

He also served as President of Royal Caribbean International’s China operations where he built the brand into the country’s leading cruise line.

He brings extensive commercial acumen and operational experience to the role and will work with the Silversea team to further position the brand as the preferred cruise line in more than 80 countries.

Royal Caribbean Group President & CEO Jason Liberty said: “With deep industry knowledge, experience in markets around the world and past leadership of a luxury cruise line, I know Bert is well positioned to chart a smart course for Silversea’s continued growth and success.”

He also paid tribute to outgoing President Ms Muckermann’s leadership at the helm of Silversea.

“Barbara has helped position Silversea as the world’s top ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line and the brand further solidified its leadership with the official inauguration of Silver Nova earlier this year, a ship hailed as ushering in a new era of luxury at sea.”

Of his new role, Mr Hernandez said: “I have long admired the wonderful brand that Barbara and team have built over 30 years.”

“The opportunity to lead and grow such a beloved brand is a great honour and the future has never been brighter as we continue the tradition of delivering best-in-class experiences with the arrival of Silver Ray later this year.”
