Here’s to the best part of the week – THE WEEKEND! In case you missed something, here’s a brief recap of this week’s top news stories.
Unfortunately, tragic news in Paris over the weekend got the week off to a pretty bad start. Over 130 people died in the attacks. An Aussie girl from Tasmania was also wounded in the terrorist attacks (the good news is that she is now out of hospital). A number of travel companies, such as Contiki and Topdeck, had tours in progress during the time of the attacks, but thankfully no one was injured from either groups.
Emirates announced that they would be fitting some of their new aircraft with the largest screens in the business, with three times the storage of older versions of their in-flight entertainment systems. The new screens range from 13.3 inches to 32 inches. Now that’s a lot of screen!
Travelodge launched a new rebranding campaign earlier in the week, changing the face of the hotel chain forever. The “Refreshingly Simple” campaign focuses on the essentials that make for a comfortable hotel stay – such as a great central location, comfy bed, Wi-Fi access and showers that actually work, and ditching those extras that the smart traveller doesn’t need anyway. KarryOn experienced it for themselves, and we have to say that we were mighty impressed.
The Gulf region is set to become crazily popular in the next few years with more and more film makers choosing to take advantage of the area’s visually stunning backdrops. Brad Pitt’s new film, War Machine, is currently in production in Abu Dhabi, and the third installment of the Star Trek franchise is rumoured to be filmed in Dubai. The new popularity of the region for the movie industry will be a boost to the local economy.
Flight Centre and Air New Zealand signed a new 3-year partnership that will create a win-win situation for both companies.
A bunch of lucky agents got to see the sunny side of Spain on a recent seven-day famil to the country flying Qatar Airways. The famil took in Barcelona, Madrid and Seville.
