Perhaps it’s those ridiculously low international sale fares (like $156 flights to Hawaii), or maybe it’s having Guy Sebastian as an ambassador – either way AirAsia continues to be a favourite among budget travellers.
The Kuala-Lumpur based brand was named the ‘World’s Best Low Cost Carrier’ in this year’s SKYTRAX 2017 World Airline Awards, making it the ninth consecutive year the airline has taken home the award.
AirAsia won the title despite having some tough competition this year from airlines such as Norwegian, which was named ‘Best Low Cost Airline in Europe’, and jetBlue Airways, the carrier that gave away free flights on two occasions and became the first US commercial airline to return to Cuba last year.
AirAsia Group’s Chief Executive Tony Fernandes said winning the award nine times was both a world record for ASEAN and a driver to continue “to improve for both our guests and shareholders”.
“We are humbled for the support shown by our valued guests and we thank them for voting for us nine times in a row.”
