Renowned actor and comedian Amy Poehler is set to grace Vivid Sydney this year, headlining a special Vivid Ideas event at the Sydney Opera House on 27 May.
An actor, writer, director, producer, and bestselling author, the American will lead “Vivid Sydney Presents – In Conversation with Amy Poehler” followed by an exclusive 30-minute preview of Disney and Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2’, for which Poehler once again voices the role of Joy.
The event, moderated by Zan Rowe, will mark Poehler’s first appearance in Sydney since 2015.
Vivid Sydney organisers have promised an engaging evening of insights and laughter with Poehler, who is most famous for her roles in ‘Parks and Recreation’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’. She also has an Emmy win and a bestselling book under her belt.
“I’m really looking forward to taking part in Vivid Sydney this year, a place that welcomes Joy in every way,” Poehler says.
“I can’t wait to share a little of Inside Out 2, a movie that lets Joy and Sadness, Anxiety and Envy all try to work together in hilarious and touching ways.”
Vivid Sydney Festival Director Gill Minervini describes Poehler as “comedy royalty and the perfect person to join us as part of Vivid Ideas for this year’s Vivid Sydney”.
“We’re so proud to add her to the growing list of guests set to captivate visitors throughout 23 nights of the festival,” he adds.
“Amy’s new film ‘Inside Out 2’ ties in perfectly with the theme of this year’s festival, Humanity, with an accessible take on how the human mind makes decisions and processes emotions.
“Allowing audiences to have an insight into how one of the world’s great writers and performers operates is sure to be a great thrill.”
Meanwhile, the Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand Senior Vice President and Managing Director Kylie Watson-Wheeler says, “Vivid Sydney is the perfect way to celebrate this colourful and captivating storytelling with Australian audiences ahead of the film’s June 13 release in cinemas”.

The event will take place at the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House, with red carpet arrivals starting at 6pm.
Additionally, a special projection of ‘Inside Out 2’ will illuminate Customs House at Circular Quay following the event.
Vivid Sydney runs from 24 May to 15 June, with tickets to Poehler’s event ranging from $49 to $129, available at vividsydney.com.
