A Dunedin man is skipping tour operators and stopovers and heading straight from the southern hemisphere to nature’s stunning night show, the Aurora Australis.

Ian Griffin, with the help of Orbit in Dunedin, has organised for the first chartered flight from Christchurch to the Aurora Oval to take place on 23 March 2017.

While services to Aurora Australis are common in the northern hemisphere, this is a first for the southern and will see most lights on the aircraft switched off so that passengers can enjoy the star show, while the plane will ‘zig zag’ four times when crossing the international dateline so that passengers on both of the aircraft can enjoy the view, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Those keen on joining the service can purchase a ticket, which will be around $4,000 for Economy and $8,500 for Business Class.
